10 Juices You Should Be Drinking
Juicing. Does anyone really like it? My guess is no. But just because it’s a pain in the ass doesn’t mean it’s not AWESOME for you. Additionally, you’ll probably benefit way more from drinking one juice a day rather than spending two excruciating weeks on a juice fast just to fuck it all up by making your first “transition meal” a bowl of pasta so big that you could probably swim in it–Patch Adams style (RIP Robin). So with that said, Foul Gal searched high and low for the BEST juices for you to incorporate into your diet. They are easy on the palate, offer a shit ton of nutritional benefits, and of course you get to be a part of this uber healthy trend known as juicing. Are you ready for clearer skin, less body fat, and Beyonce-like hair that blows in the wind wherever you go? Then read on for the 10 juices you should be drinking!
THE ULTIMATE GREEN JUICE
Go big or go home. That’s why we’re starting with The Ultimate Green Juice. Celery is a major player in this juice, providing your hot bod with folic acid, calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, iron, and essential amino acids. Celery is also super alkaline promoting, balancing out the acidity in your blood.
Ingredients: 1 bunch of celery, 4-5 kale leaves (preferably lacinato), 1 green apple, handful of parsley leaves, 1 lime, 1 lemon, 1 inch fresh ginger
SWEET SUMMERTIME
Summer may be coming to an end, but it doesn’t mean we can’t toast our days in the sun with a certain delicious beverage that happens to be SUPER hydrating. The Sweet Summertime is packed with electrolytes, keeping you hydrated, and lycopene which is a known cancer fighter and powerful antioxidant.
Ingredients: 1/4 watermelon, 10 strawberries, 2 large celery sticks
BERRY LIMEADE
Have you ever been to Sonic and had a cherry limeade? Of course you have! It is America’s Drive-In after all… Anyways, this is the PERFECT substitute because it is full of immune-boosting, antioxidant, and digestive properties–a result of the burst of Vitamin C coming from the the lemon, lime, pear, berries, and tomatoes.
Ingredients: 2 handfuls of arugula, 2 medium vine tomatoes, 1/2 pear, 1/4 cup blueberries, 1 lime, 1 inch ginger root
DARK AND STORMY
Have you ever bought red kale? Probably not. You’re most likely wondering what you would even do with it? Well we have the answer for you! Juice it! Red kale contains a compound called sulforaphane which has extreme cancer fighting properties and will also aid you in liver detoxification which let’s be real, we could all use. Lastly, it will supply you with a healthy dose of minerals, Vitamin A, Vitamin K, and antioxidants.
Ingredients: 8 red kale leaves, 1 large beet, 1 bunch of parsely, 2 celery sticks, and 1 lemon
ELECTRIFYING REPLENISHER
You work your ass off. Whether it’s running, cycling, yoga, weight-lifting, zumba, etc, your body needs to be replenished after physical exercise. This electrolyte rich juice also aids you with potassium rich veggies like beets, bell peppers, and pineapple. Potassium is the third most abundant mineral in the human body which means it kicks ass. Think about it…would your body keep it around if it didn’t? It lowers blood pressure, breaks down carbs, keeps your heart and kidneys in check, among many other kick ass things.
Ingredients: 5 medium/large carrots, 2 celery stalks, 1/2 medium/large vine tomato, 1 clementine, 1 inch ginger, 1 large handful of romaine
GOLDEN SUN
Aging is a bitch. You know what I’m talking about. When you were a kid, the only thing that would snap, crackle, and pop was your bowl of Rice Krispies. Now, it’s like those damn cereal elves have set up shop in your knees. If you’ve experienced this–don’t lie, I know I’m not the only one, then the Golden Sun is perfect for you! It’s super anti-inflammatory and offers therapeutic benefits for your joints, liver, and digestive health.
Ingredients: 1/4 large
SOME LIKE IT GREEN
Do you still hate eating your greens? If so, don’t be ashamed. A lot of adults channel their inner child when they have a plate of broccoli in front of them. So if you can’t convince your BF/BFF/Roommate to pretend your fork is a private jet filled with designer clothes (hey, it worked when you were a kid!) then you might want to try this. It won’t be good per se but it will be quick and (mostly) painless. Here’s how to get your daily dose of greens in one gulp…
Ingredients: 1 cucumber, 4-6 celery stalks, 3-4 big handfuls of any leafy green (kale, chard, collards, romaine, spinach)
SWEET SEPTEMBER
So you know how the Pumpkin Spice Latte from Starbucks came out this month? Well this is like that…except the juicing version. The Sweet September is a celebration of our transition from summer into fall. It’s full of antioxidants and phytonutrients, with metabolism and immune support from the ever plentiful Vitamin C. Like I said, it’s basically a party in your mouth…
Ingredients: 2 carrots, 3 celery stalks, 1/2 red bell pepper, 1 lime
MINT MOCKTAIL
If you’re a fan of minty drinks (think: mojitos) then you’ll LOVE this mocktail! Like our other juices, it is packed with nutrients but also has a cocktail-like flair to it hence the name: Mint Mocktail. So resist the urge to spike it (I know it’s hard) and take this tasty mocktail as it is. We promise you won’t regret it!
Ingredients: 1 large handful of spinach, 1 cucumber, 1 large handful of mint, 1/4 pineapple, 1 apple
STRAWBERRY LEMONADE
Normal, off the shelf, lemonade is terrible for you. It’s basically straight liquid sugar which is awful for so many reasons. If you’re confused, check out our argument on why you shouldn’t be consuming sugar. Alternatively, this strawberry lemonade has NO ADDED SUGAR! What’s more? There are even veggies (parsnips and cucumber) hidden inside! Don’t freak out. You won’t taste them. The veggies are masked by the flavor that comes from the strawberries, lemons, and pears all juiced into one little cup of (ahhh) heaven.
